Story 1: The Dry Season

The hot sun made the ground very dry. The plants needed water, but there was no rain. The farmers tried to water their plants every day, but the distance to the river was very wide. Some fields were near the river, but others were far away. The distances between different farms were very large.

One farmer said, "We must measure the distance from each farm to the river." They used a long rope to measure it. After measuring, they found that several farms were too far away.

Several of the farmers had an idea. They would build a path to the river. The path had to be narrow so it wouldn't take too much land. They worked quickly because the plants were drying in the sun. Each day, more plants dried and died.

Story 2: Building the Water Channel

The farmers decided to build a channel from the top of the hill. Water would fall down from the high ground to the low fields. They started at the centre of the village, right in the middle (another word for centre).

"Put this stone on top of that one," said one farmer. "No, put it in front of the other stone," said another. They worked together, placing stones at the front of the channel and at the back of it too. Some stones went behind others to make the channel strong.

They had to work quickly because more rain was coming. They could hear a loud sound in the distance - thunder! The sounds were getting closer. "That sounds like a storm," someone said.

Story 3: The Big Storm

The storm came quickly. Rain began falling from the sky. The farmers ran home. One farmer wasn't careful - he hit his head on a low branch. "Stop!" his friend shouted, but it was too late. He had already hit it.

To prevent more accidents, they stopped running and walked carefully. "We must always look up to prevent hitting our heads," they agreed. The farmer who hit his head felt cold water running down his face.

The rain was falling harder now. Big drops fell on their heads. Some drops had fallen on the ground and made puddles. The loud sounds of rain filled the air.

Story 4: Success!

The next morning, the farmers went to check the channel. Water was flowing! The channel was working! Water ran around the centre of each field, making a round path. The water went round and round in circles.

"Look at the weight of water in this bucket," said one farmer. "It's very heavy!" They needed to measure the weight of different buckets to compare them. "Let's compare one bucket with another," suggested a wise farmer. After measuring and comparing, they found that a full bucket's weight was much more than an empty one.

The plants could now get water easily. No more long walks! No more dry ground! The farmers were happy. They had prevented their plants from drying out.

The distances between the farms didn't matter anymore. Whether farms were at the top or at the back of the village, all could get water. The channel brought water from the high hill down to the low fields.

The farmers gathered at the tops of the hills to celebrate. They stood in front of their healthy plants and smiled. Some farmers stood behind others for a group photo.

"We did it quickly and together!" they all cheered loudly. The sound of their joy spread around the whole village. It was a happy day for everyone!

The End

This story shows how working together and being clever can solve big problems, even when the distance is wide and the challenges seem high!
